The Lucan

De Group Contracting, together with our sister company Deconstruct, secured the demolition and enabling package for the project known as The Lucan on behalf of our client, Gulf Islamic Investments. Comprising a combination of low-level one-, two- and four-storey structures, the building was previously a police station, with a basement across the footprint of the site.

The Lucan is set to be a high-quality, mixed-use development that combines residential, social and community uses. The eight-storey building respects its local context through its scale, massing and materiality, to meet a range of local needs and improve the public realm.

Initially, demolition to low level structures was advanced to make space for logistical distribution, loading and off-loading, enabling us to keep these works within the site footprint, a key benefit to the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea.

Following the demolition of low-level structures, a mobile crane was used to lift demolition plant to the roof level, with the four-storey structures demolished in a top-down, urban demolition fashion.

Temporary raking props were installed to the retained perimeter walls during demolition works to the upper floors, providing support for when the ground floor and basement slabs were demolished.
